Our new self serve connections tool is now live, making it possible to apply online for a domestic electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint connection and get an instant response.
The automated service is part of our pledge to speed up the connections process and accelerate the UK’s journey to decarbonisation.
EV drivers and chargepoint installers can apply online in just 10 – 15 minutes to request a new EV chargepoint connection at domestic or small commercial premises. In most cases, applications will get instant approval.
Any work necessary to enable a new connection will be carried out retrospectively.
Penny Carolan, Connections Strategy Engineer, said: “This service replaces our previous system where applicants were asked to fill in quite a lengthy form and had to wait up to 24 hours for a response.
“The new online tool will speed up the connections process for everyone and means that domestic customers and/or installers get an instant response to their applications. We’ve also made the process as user friendly as possible for all customers, the new tool has been published on our recently renovated connections website which has been created utilising customer feedback ensuring the information provided is easy to understand with lots of supporting information.”
The form can also be used to notify us where an EV chargepoint installation has already taken place.
Steps to introduce a similar self serve process to speed up the connection of heat pumps and solar panels are already underway.
