Competition in Connections Code of Practice

The Competition in Connections Code of Practice was developed through the Electricity Networks Association, in consultation with stakeholders, and approved by Ofgem.

Under the Code of Practice DNOs are required to:

  • Reduce the extent to which competitors depend on them for essential services
  • Where the DNO is required to provide these services, it will need to do so on the same basis to both its competitors and its own connections business
  • Operate to an Ofgem approved Code of Practice setting out a common set of rules to enable competitors to access the market.

Competition in Connections Governance

The Competitions in Connections Code of Practice includes arrangements to make changes, so that it can evolve over time. This included the establishment of an industry panel to oversee those changes.

Competition in Connections Governance can be found here.

Can I suggest ways to improve the Competition in Connections processes?

The Code of Practice is intended to continue to evolve under the agreed governance arrangements set in place. In the meantime NGED remain available to discuss requests from interested parties in respect of additions or changes that could continue to facilitate competition and continue to reduce the NGED input services required.

In this regard, please email nged.connectionspolicy@nationalgrid.co.uk in the first instance to request a discussion of such proposals.
