You may need to provide a Letter of Authority if you are applying for a connection on someone else’s behalf, for example as an agent, contractor or other organisation acting for a customer, landowner or occupier. You may also need to provide one if the applicant or customer does not own or occupy the site. The letter confirms that the applicant has permission to act for the relevant customer, landowner or occupier.
Subject to the exemptions below, this requirement applies to metered demand quotations. Generation quotations will continue to require a Letter of Authority. For quotations covering only non-contestable work, meaning the parts of the work that only National Grid Electricity Distribution can carry out, a Letter of Authority is required where the requested demand is 5 MVA or above. These are sometimes called SLC15 quotations.
This page explains when a Letter of Authority is needed and what it must include.
